False Miracles And Disastrous Televangelism.
It is a sad thing that the gospel has been distorted. People no longer come to Christ for forgiveness and eternal life with God, but for miracles and blessings specifically in financial success. I am not claiming that God cannot bless people financially, he does.
However Paul stated that, 1 Timothy 6:8 "But if we have food and clothing we will be content". Think how much blessed we truly are, beyond this simple things. As a matter of fact Paul states in Philippines 4:11-13 " I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength." Paul taught us to rely on God, not man or anything else.
This is not what we see in televengalist lavished with private jets and all sorts of luxury. Whereas they are supposed to exemplify Christ in his humility. Though he was God the son, he did not concern himself to the approval of man, for he came to do the will of his father. Whereas televangelist embrace secular individuals who live defiantly in sin, and has accepted some sins as acceptable now, that it is political incorrect to disagree.
We must not concern ourselves too much with worldly affairs. However we must be cautious dealing with those who profess Christ, Mathew 7 15-23 "Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” and that is the phenomenon we are witnessing.
These people get funds from desperately suffering people in the hopes of getting healed, while they lavish themselves in wealth and posperity; whereas many in their congregations are suffering immensely. It is truly selfish and disturbing that this is all being done under the name of our Lord and Savior.
We have been warned against false Miracles and signs by Jesus himself in Mathew 24 "For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible." And we are at a age that false teachers are not hidden among us, but are open in display. The world with its fleshly desires seek after such preachers.
Paul warned us in 2 Timothy 4:3-4 "For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear." That is why tele-evenaglists fill stadiums of people.
People don't come to Christ to deny themselves, repent of their sins and to follow Christ, but merely to acquire miracles, or financial prosperity. People don't want to repent and turn away from their evil ways, so they listen to preachers who tell them what they want to hear and endorse these preachers lavishly.
The sad thing is that these lies are pushing people away from Christ. You can fool some people sometimes, but you cannot fool all people all the time. Scandals and sexual misconduct has been prominent in the clergy. These perversion has greatly undermined the message of Christ and the cross.
You go to Christ to get saved and redeemed, and to get a relationship with the creator. We don't go to God to get rich or expect miracles. Yes, God does miracles but Jesus told us in John 16: 33 "
I have told you this so that in me you may be in peace. In the world you will endure suffering. But take courage! I have overcome the world.” In this world we will suffer, to follow Christ you will be persecuted; the Christian life is not an easy life, but it is the path set forth through Christ.
